The Chronology of My Treatment

Salam,

A close friend of mine called me just now, asking me about my PCOS and fertility treatment that I once underwent before Allah granted me with my precious little one. She said she might need to go through the same procedure but was a bit clueless on what to expect and how should the treatment regime going. I tried to explain my experience over the phone but still cannot make it clear enough for her understanding, as I got the bit and pieces here and there. Seems like unfinished jigsaw puzzle to us.

So I have decided to dig back into my 2009 and 2010 diary where I kept the date and details of our numerous doctor's appointment.Only now I realized the importance of keeping a diary to keep track of almost everything and I'm glad that I have put the diary into use ever since I started my treatments back in 2009. If I can't find a particular event in my diary, I must have been writing it somewhere else, especially on my blogs or in my usrah book. huhu!

Okay, so here I present the chronology of my treatment dated back from November 2009. My first step of treament actually have started about a month or two before that but I only have the record from the month of November. I hope this could give her a clearer insight of what's happening and helped her through. Also for those who wants to be gynae/ doctor/ mother, I hope this entry would be beneficial for you too...

*I used CD for Cycle Days which is calculated from the first day of mense.

20/11/2009
CD1 - Doc's appointment with Dr. Lee for treatment of gastritis and Dr. Su for PCOS. Have been taking Controloc+Ganaton+Meteospasmyl (for gastrointestinal tract problem). Before this appointment, I have underwent endoscopy which confirmed I have no problem with my bowel , only slightly gastric. So I was refered to Dr.Su, the gynaecologist, and U/S scan showed I have polycystic ovaries.

21/11/2009
CD2 - Taking blood sample to check hormone level.

30/11/2009
CD11 - Doc's appointment to get my blood test result.
Progrestrone level = 1 nmol/L only. Normal level to achieve pregnancy should be 35 nmol/L. FSH:LH ratio not balanced. LH higher which confirmed PCOS.

14/12/2010
CD1 - Menses after a 25 days cycle. Taking Metformin for treatment of PCOS

15/12/2010
CD2 - Starts Clomid 50 mg (CD2-CD6)

19/01/2010
CD1 - Very light menses after a 37 days cycle. Seems like Clomid have lengthen my cycle.

20/01/2010
CD2 - Took Metformin and Clomid 100 mg (CD2-CD6). I remembered taking blood sample on day 21 of this cycle to check on my progestrone level after taking 100 mg Clomid. But I have not jot it down in my diary.

12/02/2010

CD25 -Doc's appointment to take my blood test result. Unfortunately the hospital did not sent my samples to the lab so no result. Arrrghh! Told to wait for mense to come either naturally or if not, to induce by taking pills. Need to come again on CD2 of next cycle.

11/03/2010
CD1 - Menses after a long 51 days cycle! Clomid have obviously lengthen my cycle (higher dose, longer cycle!). Doctor said maybe my body did not response well to Clomid, which is typical of PCOS sufferer.

12/03/2010
CD2 - Doc's appointment. This was an unmedicated cycle since we will be going to Jordan during estimated ovulation. So no point of taking Clomid. Planned for laproscopy on the next cycle.

13/04/2010
CD1 - Menses after a 33 days cycle. Scheduled laparoscopy on CD8.

20/03/2010
CD8 - Laparoscopy surgery! 2 days in hospital plus 2 weeks MC.. This is an unmedicated cycle as to give a break for healing process after the operation.

21/05/2010
CD1 - Menses after 39 days of laparoscopic cycle. First time having heavy flow after so long!!! Taking Metformin and Folic acid to prepare for conceive.

11/06/2010
CD21 - Took blood samples for Day 21 serum progrestrone blood test.

23/06/2010
CD1 - Menses after 32 days cycle. Still with heavy flow as the previous cycle. Taking Metformin + Folic Acid still.

24/06/2020
CD2 - Starts 100 mg Clomid cycle (CD2-CD6)

25/06/2010
CD3 - Doc's appointment. Result of blood test showed my day 21 serum progestrone level was 21.1 nmol/L. Yeay! Not quiet there yet but seems like it was improving.

03/07/2010
CD11 - Ovulation Tracking: Lots of small cyst on right ovary. The biggest follicles measured 10.9 mm on the left ovary. A matured follicle should measured at least 18 mm to be released and conceived.

06/06/2010
CD14 - Ovulation Tracking: Lots of small cyst on right ovary. No dominant follicle on left ovary, except a misshapped follicle. This cycle was cancelled.

28/07/2010
CD 36 - Negative from cheap home pregnancy test. As expected...

29/07/2010
CD1 - Confirmed negative from expensive digital pregnancy test followed by menses after 36 days cycle. Still taking Mettformin and Folic Acid.

30/07/2010
CD2 - Starts Clomid 100mg (CD2-CD6). This time doctor suggested to combine with Puregon injection since my body did not response well to Clomid.

02/08/2010
CD5 - Starts on Puregon injection 100 miu dose. (on CD5,CD7,CD9)

07/08/2010
CD10 - Ovulation Tracking: Found 2 dominant follicle on my right ovary. Both are around 15 mm. Yeay! I'm hopeful!

09/08/2010
CD12 - Ovulation Tracking: The 2 dominant follicle grown bigger, measured 21 mm and 19 mm. Alhamdulillah! Took HCG shot in the moring. Eggs will be released in 36 hours.

27/08/2010
CD28 - Brown spotting. I was crying as I thought my menses was coming.

28/08/2010
CD29 - Positive home pregnancy test! Suprised! Confirmed positive at the clinic. Still worried that it was not from the baby but from HCG shot residue. So cannot be that happy.

30/08/2010
CD33 - Confirmed pregnancy with U/S scan, saw one gestational sac. But found a worrying 5-7 cm cyst on my right ovary. Continue Folic Acid.

09/09/2010
6 weeks - Cyst shrunk by 1 cm. Saw fetal pole and yolk sac.

24/09/2010
8 weeks - Cyst almost disappear. Measured around 2.7 cm only, which was hardly seen. Saw obvious fetal pole with heartbeat and the yolk sac.

08/10/2010
10 weeks - Blood test to check on hb, sugar level etc. Start taking Sangobion with Duphaston (progestrone supplement to prevent misscarriage).

Alright, I think that's enough to cover my whole treatment process. Up to my 10 weeks of pregnancy, we are more confident on the viability of the pregnancy thus lesser doctor appointments. Anyway, hope it could by any help to anyone out there. Feel free to ask me anything.

Wishing everyone all the best and lots of baby dust!
